　　那时，达味住在宫殿里，上主赐他安享太平，不为四个仇敌所侵扰，君王遂对纳堂先知说：“请看，我住在香柏木的宫殿里，而天主的约柜却在帐幕内。”纳堂回答君王说：“你心内打算的，你全可照办！因为上主与你同在。”但是，当夜就有上主的话传于纳堂说：“你去告诉我的仆人达味，上主这样说：你要建筑一座殿宇给我居住吗？”现在，你要对我的仆人达味说：“万军的上主这样说：是我拣选你离开牧场，离开放羊的事，作我民以色列的领袖。你不论到那里去，我总是偕同你，由你面前消灭你的一切仇敌；我要使你成名，像世上出名的大人物；我要把我民以色列安置在一个地方，栽培他们，在那里久住，再也不受惊恐，再也不像先前受恶人的欺压，有如自从我为我民以色列立了民长以来一样；我要赐他们安宁，不受仇敌的骚扰。上主也告诉你：他要为你建立家室。当你的日子满期与你祖先长眠时，我必在你以后兴起一个后裔，即你所生的儿子；我必巩固他的王权。我要作他的父亲，他要作我的儿子；你的家室和王权，在我面前永远存在，你的王位也永远坚定不移。”

　　若翰的父亲匝加利亚充满了圣神，遂预言说：“上主，以色列的天主应受赞美，因他眷顾救赎了自己的民族，并在自己的仆人达味家中，为我们兴起了大能的救主。正如他藉历代诸圣先知的口所说过的，拯救我们脱离敌人和仇恨我们者的手。他向我们的祖先施行仁慈，记忆起他自己的神圣盟约，就是他向我们的祖先亚巴郎所宣述的誓词，恩赐我们从敌人手中被救出以后，无怨无惧，一生一世在他的面前，以圣善和正义事奉他。至于你，小孩，你要称为至高者的先知，因你要走在上主前面，为他预备道路，为使他的百姓认识救恩，以获得他们罪恶的宽宥：这是出于我们天主的慈怀，使旭日由高天向我们照耀，为光照那坐在黑暗和死影中的人，并引我们的脚步，走向和平的道路。”

献礼经

2 Sm 7:1-5, 8b-12, 14a, 16

When King David was settled in his palace,
and the LORD had given him rest from his enemies on every side,
he said to Nathan the prophet,
“Here I am living in a house of cedar,
while the ark of God dwells in a tent!”
Nathan answered the king,
“Go, do whatever you have in mind,
for the LORD is with you.”
But that night the LORD spoke to Nathan and said:
“Go, tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the LORD:
Should you build me a house to dwell in?

“‘It was I who took you from the pasture
and from the care of the flock
to be commander of my people Israel.
I have been with you wherever you went,
and I have destroyed all your enemies before you.
And I will make you famous like the great ones of the earth.
I will fix a place for my people Israel;
I will plant them so that they may dwell in their place
without further disturbance.
Neither shall the wicked continue to afflict them as they did of old,
since the time I first appointed judges over my people Israel.
I will give you rest from all your enemies.
The LORD also reveals to you
that he will establish a house for you.
And when your time comes and you rest with your ancestors,
I will raise up your heir after you, sprung from your loins,
and I will make his Kingdom firm.
I will be a father to him,

Gospel
Lk 1:67-79

Zechariah his father, filled with the Holy Spirit, prophesied, saying:

“lessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
for he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty Savior,
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his prophets he promised of old
that he would save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all who hate us.
He promised to show mercy to our fathers
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
to set us free from the hand of our enemies,
free to worship him without fear,
holy and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.
You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
to give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

若望

　　若翰和耶稣出生的情景，互相对应，但後者的描述比前者详尽细致。唯一例外是割损礼。耶稣行割损礼的记载，只提到耶稣的名字，并无其他细节；若翰行割礼的记载，则包括了名字的争拗、匝加利亚恢复说话的能力及咏唱美丽的「匝加利亚赞主曲」。这隆重的记载，有其原因：匝加利亚怀疑的态度必须得到纠正。天使惩罚他，使他变成哑巴；现在匝加利亚依照天使的吩咐，给孩子起名，是忠信的表现。所以，惩罚撤销了，匝加利亚遂颂唱他的赞主曲谢恩。

　　匝加利亚的赞主曲是真福八端所指的「神贫者」之歌。这 所指的，不是物质生活完全匮乏的人，而是完全依靠天主生活工作，让天主的许诺在自己身上实现的人。若瑟、玛利亚、匝加利亚、依撒伯尔、耶稣、牧羊人、西默盎、亚纳，及在新约中，因耶稣寻找，而聚集围绕他跟前的「小羊群」，都属於这阶层的人。他们将旧约和新约连贯。除非我们是上主的神贫者，否则我们一无是处。

在圣经的许多诗歌中，匝加利亚的赞主曲，也是一首令人百读不厌的、很美的诗歌。这首诗歌意境高远、气势不凡。它以整个以色列子民历来对默西亚的期盼终于实现为主题，唱出了对天主由衷的赞颂与感恩。
诗歌的开头一句就是一个感恩的赞颂，而这个感恩的赞颂，并非站在个人小我的立场，而是站在整个民族的角度对天主发出的赞叹。按通常的道理来说，天主恩赐匝加利亚这对年迈的夫妇老年得子，他们应该为自己的家庭或自己而感谢天主。但被圣神充满，由圣神所带领的匝加利亚信口所唱出的，早已超越了个人的情怀，而是不由自主地进入了一种民族的、历史的大情怀中。在这样的一种民族感与历史感中去感受、去体验天主的救恩。整首歌的70至75节，所带出来的就是这样一种情怀，一份体验。
在圣神的带领之下，匝加利亚可以说是思绪万千，纵横驰骋，从深沉凝重的以色列民族的救恩史到眼前的这个刚出生的婴孩，在这个婴孩身上，他看到了天主充满慈爱的救援计划正在展开；一种信心在心中油然升起，一个希望在新生命里正在变成事实。整个民族关于默西亚的盼望，就在这个孩子的诞生中拉开了序幕。在匝加利亚神视中，随默西亚而来的，并非多数以色列人所想望的战争与暴力，而是一幅和平的景象。
请赞美上主以色列的天主，因为祂眷顾了祂的子民，拯救了祂的民族。祂在自己仆人达味的家中为我们兴起了一位大能的救主……
