In meditation, repeating the mantra given to the disciple by the Guru is very important. Usually, the mantra is a syllable or word that the Guru deems beneficial for the disciples spiritual growth. The disciple then repeats the mantra in his mind, and slowly, his own body begins to resonate with the vibrations of the mantra. That is a state of deep meditation, and it has many positive effects on the disciple.

For rowing across the ocean of life, Guru Mantra is the only oar.

Mantras are written in many books. But mantras of books cannot be beneficial unless they are heard from the mouth of a knowledgeable person.

The power of mantras remains great unless they are traded, bought or sold

Mantra Japa cleanses our veins. Purifies the mind. Destroys the three ills. Of its own accord our mind begins to feel good, our heart begins to feel good, and we begin to do nice things.

The mantra that guru gives you denotes friendship. Mantra is not a material thing that a Babaji gives you, neither does it represent those surreptitious meetings that ministers have. He gives you a friend in the form of the mantra who is always ready to help you in times of strife, trouble and pain. It provides support when our life becomes sorrowful and seems to be disintegrating. This is the meaning of the mantra of the guru. You feel great joy, inner happiness in meeting a true friend, and great pain on separating from him.

The mantra that guru gives as a friend. Guru gives his trust. One who receives it should be righteous, determined, and of stable mind. He never gets frightened in the face of hurricanes of trouble, and remains stable like the Himalayas. He does not rise and fall like shallow waters. He is like an unfathomable ocean.

Teaching without initiation widens a gap between Guru and disciple.

When you express that mantra through your voice it gets infused in all of the cosmos, my friends, even before you have closed your lips

(The effect of mantra Japa) You cannot understand how great the effect of mantra Japa is on you. It is our protector, and the source of our inspiration. It is the guide of our path that inspires us to go amongst nice people, saints and great souls.

By performing mantra-Japa many dirty and vicious inclinations present in our veins and blood get dissipated. A new, wholesome temperament develops within us which is beautiful and joyful not only for us, but also for others. It is for the welfare of others, and our own temperament turns towards the welfare of others.

Doing pranayama (breathing exercises) and pranav (vibrations of the seed mantras) electrical currents are generated which will end the lethargy of your senses.

By performing mantra-recitation, by meditating, by reflecting -- strength is added to our speech. This strength accumulates and gives us the ability to succeed in everything. Mantra is the friend who takes us to our soul, which, though we have always lived with it, we have suppressed. Unable to discern this, we keep looking for our soul outside ourselves and among various divinities.

Who do we pray to? We pray to the great unknown, the Supreme Cosmic Force, or we pray to ourselves. We say, O my Self, if you are in a good state, if you are full of love, then I am not worried about anything. Then I do not have any reason to give place within me to thoughts and acts that are ephemeral.

In a state of deep meditation the seeker remains absolutely quiet. He lets the vibrations of his heart communicate everything. Within this vibration the mantra given to him by the Guru resonates. Then, he manages everything in life easily.

Our inner being should remain constantly with our Divinity while we perform our duties with our eyes, nose, mouth and hands.
