读经一
德训篇　48: 1-4, 9-11
当时，兴起了一位激烈如火的先知厄里亚，他的言辞炽热如火炬。他使人民遭遇饥荒，因他嫉恶如仇，使人民的数目大减，他因上主的一句话，关闭了苍天；同样，他也三次使火下降。啊，厄里亚！因你的奇迹，你是多么荣耀！谁能自夸与你相似？你乘着火马车，被火旋风卷去；你受命随时备妥，为在上主发怒以前，平息上主的义怒，为使父亲的心转向儿子，为使雅各伯的各支派恢复旧观。看见你的人，和安眠于爱的人，是有福的！

众门徒从山上下来时，便问耶稣说：「那么，为什么经师说厄里亚应该先来呢？」耶稣回答说：「厄里亚的确要来，且要重整一切。但我告诉你们：厄里亚已经来了，人们却不认识他，反而任意对待了他；照样，人子也要受他们磨难。」门徒这才明白耶稣给他们所说的，是指的洗者若翰。

Reading I
Sir 48:1-4, 9-11

In those days,
like a fire there appeared the prophet Elijah
whose words were as a flaming furnace.
Their staff of bread he shattered,
in his zeal he reduced them to straits;
By the Lord’s word he shut up the heavens
and three times brought down fire.
How awesome are you, Elijah, in your wondrous deeds!
Whose glory is equal to yours?
You were taken aloft in a whirlwind of fire,
in a chariot with fiery horses.
You were destined, it is written, in time to come
to put an end to wrath before the day of the LORD,
To turn back the hearts of fathers toward their sons,
and to re-establish the tribes of Jacob.
Blessed is he who shall have seen you
and who falls asleep in your friendship.

Mt 17:9a, 10-13

As they were coming down from the mountain,
the disciples asked Jesus,
“Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
He said in reply, “Elijah will indeed come and restore all things;
but I tell you that Elijah has already come,
and they did not recognize him but did to him whatever they pleased.
So also will the Son of Man suffer at their hands.”
Then the disciples understood
that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.

今天的福音是耶稣在大博尔山显圣容后紧接着发生的事情，但它同时又发生在耶稣预言受难之前。积藏在心中已久的问题，终于在今天得到解释。耶稣知道自己离世归父的日子临近了，为坚固门徒的信心，祂在大博尔山上向门徒显示了自己的天主性，让此经验支持他们面对即将发生的事。先知预言厄里亚应在默西亚之前出现，厄里亚的任务是为默西亚傅油、祝圣，为了默西亚的救恩史打开序幕。因为耶稣显圣容只是昙花一现，门徒对眼前的情况与相传的不相符合而提出了此问。耶稣强调厄里亚要来复兴一切。耶稣受苦是先知预言的应验。门徒问耶稣默西亚已来，为何厄里亚还未到，因为厄里亚将要来复兴一切。耶稣暗示厄里亚已经出现。耶稣借机纠正他们不正确的默西亚观——祂来，不仅为以色列，更为整个人类！
    今天的福音也启示我们，天主的救恩已经来到，且已临于这个世界，就在我们身边，信仰不应只一味等待，它也不是自私的、狭隘的个人主义或民族主义，而是应以胸怀天下、成己达人的心态努力使福音广传于世，使人人认识并接受救恩，使天主的国早日临现人间。
    主，让我们珍惜祢在我们生命中临在的经验，也能使我们面对一切困苦和逆境。
